Search Engine Optimisation Meta Tag Keywords

Now you have created user-friendly text which is going to achieve good results within the search engines, the next step is to ensure that your webpage title, description and keywords meta tags are all in order and reflects your page content and keywords. It’s common knowledge that search engines only really pay attention to the title and description tag, and even some search engines are not paying attention to the description tag any longer due to keyword spamming in the past.

The title meta tag is the most important tag, this is the information that appears as the link in the search engine results and also the wording that appears at the very top of the web browser window when anyone is your viewing the website.

The description meta tag is the second most important meta tag as this is the text information that appears below the text link in the search engine results (in the screenshot above the description is directly below the blue title link text.) The description meta tag should hold no more than 20 words  and for obvious reasons should not be key word stuffed,  it is good practice for the to include all of your keywords your optimising for.

The keyword meta tag is less important and generally does not carry any weight for the webpage, although you should still place your keywords in this area, and all that is required is to list your individual keywords one after the other. It is important that you do not repeat any keyword more than five times, and keep your keyword/phrases to a maximum of 20 keywords.
